Migration of the Fenerbahce Sports Club environments to the Google Cloud Platform

Client

Fenerbahce Sports Club is a Turkish sports club based in Istanbul.It is a major multi-sport club that competes in football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, swimming, sailing, rowing, boxing, and table tennis, among many others, with many major honours won in each department. The team plays its home games at Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium with 50,509 people capacity, located in Istanbul Kadıköy. Founded in 1907 as a sports club Fenerbahce, Turkey is one of the most successful and the most pro sports clubs in football history.The current head of the Club is Ali Koç.

Business Challenge

Previously, Fenerbahçe were contracted to a fully managed service covering application, databases and server platform. The solution was costly and technically problematic. They wanted to manage the application layers themselves and continue to use cloud hosting services as the server and database platform. Google Cloud Premier Partner NGC was instrumental during their migration project for our expertise on the Google cloud platform. Our solutions for building their production systems around Google Cloud Platform products helped them both solve the problem at hand and reduce the costs significantly. NGC also helped educate the team on all GCP functionality.

Solution

We helped the client move their infrastructure to the GCP environment Using the Cloud Load Balancer, we scaled the application based on incoming traffic. Our team proposed the Fenerbahce to migrate to a GCP architecture, having a virtual private cloud for their infrastructure as security was a major concern for them. Our goal was to set up private subnets for the client to keep their database in those subnets so that the outside world has no access to their data. Setting up security groups solved the problem of data security for the client. NGC assisted the client in deploying their applications on GCP by creating the virtual machines for them. On the security front, our team worked on firewall restrictions and assigning policies.

Results

By building up the GCP architecture, the client was able to work on the cost efficiency front while establishing a robust and secure infrastructure. Leveraging Google Cloud, the data can be accessed in a trouble-free and secure manner. There was a notable cost saving in infrastructure setup, of approximately 30-40% by setting up the Virtual Machines on Google Cloud as a result of attaching the load balancer.
